The beneficial effects of learning and applying Body Calm are rapidly becoming more evident, despite the relative newness of this self-healing system. In the case of a physical condition, however, it may make sense to seek a solution alongside Body Calm or perhaps even independently of it. The notion of mind based causes of physical conditions and (especially) long term health problems are starting to gain a little more acceptance and understanding which is very good news for achieving a peaceful resolution, or at least improvement, in an uncomfortable, painful or frightening health condition. The Mind Detox Method, created by Sandy Newbigging, works to uncover and resolve the often hidden beliefs which may have triggered an illness or enable it to persist.
Whilst it isn’t difficult to see that a child’s belief such as ‘not being good at something’ can persist exactly as it is and ensure that the adult experiences a corresponding lack of confidence in a certain area, it is the case that many physical conditions also have their roots in such limiting beliefs. It isn’t a huge leap of faith to see that our thoughts impact on our physiology: most of us have blushed when we’ve experienced an embarrassing situation, or had ‘butterflies’ in our stomachs or an increased heart rate before giving a speech, for example. Beyond this, we also know that stress has an effect on the body especially when it is chronic. This concept starts to become difficult as we struggle to see a possible link between a current condition and an event long ago, which may have led to it either directly or indirectly. This can be attributed to the mind’s interpretation of events which we also experience in dreams: most of us have had dreams that clearly relate to a previous event, the key ingredients are there, and yet the dream interprets the event somewhat symbolically. In a similar way our minds can trigger a condition which links only symbolically (from a perspective of logic) to a belief or conclusion formed probably long ago. However, it may be the mind-body’s best attempt at ensuring survival. This might, for example, be psoriasis to ‘protect’ against attack or bullying, constipation where someone is ‘holding on’ to something, digestion problems when something has been difficult to process, problems with knees when someone has felt unsupported. Other examples may make even less sense to our logical brains but this is not to say that finding a corresponding belief and replacing it with newer, healthier beliefs will not prove beneficial in dealing with the physical condition. This is what the Mind Detox Method aims to achieve: if the belief that initiated the problem can be removed and replaced, even a physical condition no longer has its source, its reason to exist.
If any of this resonates with you, I would be delighted to discuss it further with you. Unlike traditional therapeutic interventions, Mind Detox typically gets to the root cause quickly meaning that this is not a long-term approach. Whilst multiple sessions may be needed, it is more likely that just two sessions will suffice and in some cases, one may be enough.
A consultation is one hour, but it may need to be up to 90 minutes, especially in the case of a first meeting, so flexibility is built in to accommodate this. The sessions can be in person or via Skype. The first conultation is £75, and thereafter the cost is £55 for any subsequent sessions. Please contact me if this is something you are considering so that we can determine whether or not it is the right course of action for you. If you then decide to proceed, you can secure your time slot with a small deposit. Please see our Booking Deposit information for more on this.
