It’s easy to conclude that issues relating to food, especially weight issues, are almost entirely a consequence of the quantity and type of food we eat. The food itself matters enormously, but so does being happy and at ease with food, and sometimes there are emotional factors at play, usually beneath the surface of our awareness, that intrude on our capacity for a healthy relationship with food and the way we eat.
It may be easier to see the role of emotional responses in respect of addictive and or compulsive eating, or rejection of food. In such cases, there may well be a hidden belief that is holding you back from the full enjoyment of nourishing food. Discovering and resolving the belief can be thoroughly liberating, and allow you to engage differently and more peacefully with eating. This is what the Mind Detox Method, created by Sandy Newbigging, aims to do.
Those who have experienced weight problems know of the conflict, the ‘I should’ and ‘I shouldn’t’ that invade most mealtimes. If you have seen Graham’s story in the ‘About Us’ section of this website, you will know that after many decades, he has finally found his natural weight. In his case, much of the process of losing weight related directly to food choices (which is one of the many reasons for our preference for a natural way of eating), but he acknowledges too with hindsight that the weight he was carrying may have served as a barrier or form of protection as is often the case when a person feels the need to insulate themselves from hurt or rejection, or against unpleasant issues in their external life. Mind Detox may be a means of clearing these matters, to enable the weight loss that often seems so elusive despite concerted attempts and effort to effect change.
If any of this resonates with you, I would be delighted to discuss it further with you. Unlike traditional therapeutic interventions, Mind Detox typically gets to the root cause quickly meaning that this is not a long-term approach. Whilst multiple sessions may be needed, it is more likely that just two sessions will suffice and in some cases, one may be enough.
A consultation is one hour, but it may need to be up to 90 minutes, especially in the case of a first meeting, so flexibility is built in to accommodate this. The sessions can be in person or via Skype. The first conultation is £75, and thereafter the cost is £55 for any subsequent sessions. Please contact me if this is something you are considering so that we can determine whether or not it is the right course of action for you. If you then decide to proceed, you can secure your time slot with a small deposit. Please see our Booking Deposit information for more on this.
